We all are suffering from the huge pandemic COVID-19. Day by day it’s rising and the situation is getting worst. Strict measures have been taken to protect our nation by implementing the method of lockdown for the whole three weeks. Maintaining hygienic and social distancing is the main point to stop the disease.
During this lockdown period of 21 days, don’t forget that you are the only person who is maintaining social distancing. In general your vehicle will also get spoiled. To ensure that your vehicle remains in a good working state, it is essential to keep a few things in mind. Here are some tips to maintain your car battery during the lockdown:-
Clean the battery terminals
The first most things thatneed to be done are to identify the positive side of the battery by finding the rep cap. You need to disconnect the negative terminal first. The next process is to make a mixture of baking soda and water. Dip a hard brush into the mixture and clean, both battery terminals.
- Wipe the terminals with a wet cloth
- Reconnect the battery when you are finished with your work. Always connect the positive side first
- Rust on battery terminals prevents its lifespan and performance.
Preserve the battery
The majority of car owners know that the battery gets down even when the vehicle is not in use. Start your vehicle once a week for at least 15-20 minutes to prevent the battery from getting discharged. If this method is not possible and the vehicle remains in a non-working mode, then automakers suggest disconnecting the battery from the negative terminal to prevent discharge. This method will help to avoid unnecessary problems in your car and also will avoid the need to jump-start your car.
Keep the vehicle in running process
We all know that vehicles are machines and machines work properly when it is in running state. Start your vehicle alternately and do function all the system such as an air conditioner, music theatre, etc. This will allow your vehicle to remain in a good state and also allows you to identify the faults in advance. If the situation allows, then take your vehicle for a short ride inside the boundary of your colony or society. And if that doesn’t work, move your car to avoid junks. This will also help in preventing flat spots on the tyres.
Avoid using the handbrake
If you are not using your car for a longer period, avoid using the handbrake as it could jam. Simply you can do is, leave the car in gear or place stone, wooden or brick to stop the car from moving from its original place. For automatic cars, there is an option of parking mode; you can leave your car in the parking mode.
Check the battery fluid level
Open the caps on top of the battery and notice each cell. The fluid must cover the battery plates. We can measure the level whether it is high or low. Pour the distilled water until and unless it covers the battery plates and reaches the place of cell refill holes.
- Wipe off the excess fluid when replacing the vent caps. Try to wipe the cells to prevent dirt inside the battery.
- You need to use a flathead screwdriver to remove the caps. Remember to place it back properly.
- You can only use distilled water, not tap water. Tap water can destroy the battery’s performance.
